Jan. 9th, 2002 06:28 amFelt glum during much of the day, but went and signed in to go to High Table with A and his American friend Brook, who was coming over this evening. Sorted out cheques and stuff; went and paid in eight of them that I'd accumulated, and sent one off for the guesthouse in Jersey for Eastercon. Went to Sainsbury's and bought milk and dip to eat carrots with. Had bath; dressed up all in black for the evening.
With A and B, went to Parlour before meal, then had dinner. Food ok but vegetarian alternative was strangely reminiscent of the feast on Sunday :-) Sat next to strange old fellow I've met before, who used to know EM Forster when he was at King's. After meal, went back to A's place and drank liqueur coffees and then red wine and port. Watched first series of "A League of Gentlemen" on DVD. Pretty funny, I thought.
Afterwards, long chat with A and B before B had to leave for her coach to the airport at 5.10am! At A's urging, I recounted edited highlights of my love life from 1992-present day for B's amusement. She seemed amused. I'm glad my exploits entertain some people - at least they have some point! Or am I too cynical? In the course of retelling, it transpired that _that party_ at Scotland Road in late 1995 was the key moment, if one were making a film of the whole thing. I think it would be a film one would have to watch drunk, if at all.
