Jan. 22nd, 2002 10:38 amSo, yesterday morning, went to bank and cancelled cashpoint card and ordered another one. They claim it should arrive by Friday, but G and B are totally unconvinced :-) Took out some money, and then went to hang around in PR until G showed up. We had lunch, which was nice, and then I went back to the centre and bought a new wallet from a rather disturbing girly accessories shop, which was the only place I could find selling non-leather wallets. Managed to find one that wasn't pink or covered in hearts. Christ.
Then walked to Sidgwick site to pick up exam proofs to look over for the meeting today. The departmental secretary took some persuading to look for my scripts, but eventually opened a drawer with great reluctance, and found them. Then I went to the UL, and got a new card, and went into the library to sort out Amharic stuff. Amharic is another Semitic language; the national language of Ethiopia; and written in a semi-syllabic script (along the lines of devanagari and other Indian `syllabic' scripts i.e. all symbols represent CV syllables, but different vowels are indicated in a pretty systematic way by modifications to the basic shape). Couldn't borrow dictionary, but left grammar etc. reserved in reading room. Will try to work on that this afternoon.
Then came back and headed off to meet G again. B was there too; nice to see him again. We went to the PR and had a pint. I played Bantumi on B's mobile phone, and actually won this time! G was really tired, and wanted to go to the Maypole to eat. So we had some food there, and a couple of cocktails. Then G was desperate to pop into the KSR in case anyone was there, but it was just JS and E playing pool in the tournament as expected. We said hi, and left them to it. We dashed to Sainsbury's to get alcohol (Sainsbury's economy gin, two bottles of tonic and a lemon!) and G also wanted some razorblades and a tin of rolling tobacco (much cheaper than custom-made cigarettes). G thinks he ought to drink more spirits and less snakebite-and-black, for the sake of his digestion and figure!
So, we came back to mine, and drank some G&Ts, and chatted a little. G was very tired, and read a bit while I looked at lj and news. TF rang me up to ask me out to the cinema later this week. Unfortunate timing, really. I'm afraid I was rather abrupt to him; he said, "Do you want to see a film some time this week?" and I just said, "No"! I emailed him today to apologise and explain about G.
So, then to bed :-) This morning, after G left for work, I went to Woolies for breakfast, and got more supplies from Sainsbury's. At noon today I have an examiners' meeting; then I'll go to the UL for a bit, and then head off for my dentist's checkup (argh!).
Oh, I have a big bite-mark on my neck now...
