Apr. 13th, 2002 10:05 amThursday evening G and I went to Sainsbury's and bought lots and lots of alcohol for the party on Friday, then lugged it back home with the help of the C4. I cooked my usual pasta and oyster mushroom thing, and we drank lots of pink wine and smoked lots of stuff while G made various challenging phonecalls. He called all sorts of relatives to tell them the good news, and some of them wanted to talk to me too! His grandfather was amusing - he asked G "What sort of family does she come from?" :-) I didn't think people asked that sort of thing any more. Also L ICQ'd G and he decided to phone her up (at great cost no doubt!) in Brazil to explain stuff, so I went and sat downstairs feeling weird until he came and told me the deed was done and she wasn't upset or anything. So that's good. All more settled in that direction now.
He also spoke to his parents again, and they seemed most concerned that I hadn't told my parents yet. So on Friday afternoon I psyched myself up and rang my mum again, and actually told her about the engagement this time. It was not good. She was not pleased (though she was pleased I had told her). She still refused to tell me her and my father's objections to G, saying it would achieve nothing to tell me. She said she wished she could congratulate me and say she was over the moon about it, but she couldn't. She did however say she hoped we'd be happy, and said she'd come to the wedding if I invited her (!) but warned me that my father might not come. She'll have told him by now; I'm now waiting for a call or email from him. Rrrg. Not good.
So around 4.30 G and I got the bus into town to start some serious drinking :-) First we went to Pure for B's 20th birthday - it was good to see him again, and some other people from G's old callcentre. We gave him a present of a blowtorch-style lighter, which is very cool, but eats up gas like nobody's business. Had a bite to eat there too (earlier in the day, G had tried to compel me to get up and make waffles, by various means including pleading, begging, and jumping up and down on the bed shouting "Waffles!" - in the end we came to a mutually satisfactory arrangement involving lots of sex :-). After Pure, hurried over to KSR, where lots of people came and met up with us - GB, Lee, E, R, Gina and Barry, sj and Emma - also, from "my" side of things, my old friend A, ptc, and ST. Perhaps my geek friends were intimidated by the choice of pub; anyway, I was rather disappointed that no more of them showed up, but thanks to those who did come! G and I got pretty smashed before we even left the pub; people then made their way, via lifts or on foot, to G's place, where we drank even more and smoked stuff. G's London friends Doogle and DE arrived after several missed trains, apparently, and G spent much of the evening talking to them in the corridor (they seemed unwilling to come into the main room with everyone else). G's housemates L and M also joined us. I talked a lot to A, ptc and M, and kept trying to get G to come and join the rest of us. G got extremely drunk and eventually sort of passed out on the chair in the spare room; eventually he came upstairs and found me and we passed out fully-clad in his room. I presume everyone who wanted to crash overnight here managed to do so! Thanks to all who came and made it a good party - I hope you all had a good time too!
Later today G's brother I. is coming to see us; tomorrow we're going to see G's parents for a meal; next Wednesday another old friend of G's is coming to visit - the celebration never ends...
