(no subject)
Dec. 15th, 2001 05:47 pmDidn't have an opportunity to write an entry yesterday. On Thursday, actually embarked on a bit more of the research I'm supposed to be doing - spent time learning to read Arabic script so I can produce a vocabulary list in IPA transcription. Cool script; common ancestry with Hebrew script somewhat helpful to learning it.
In the evening, went to the Kingston about 6.45 to try to get a table early. Unfortunately, they were all taken already (saw CP there, who said she'd rushed over at 5pm in order to secure one!), but M. arrived and we loitered by the bar for a while, eyeing one particular table where the people seemed close to finishing their meals, until our vulture-like presence compelled them to go! G. arrived, a bit late due to taking a misjudged short cut, and we had a nice meal. Lots more people arrived later, and G. seemed to get on quite well with them. Back to G's afterwards, where he'd tidied up a bit.
Friday morning, G. showed no inclination to go to work, and rang in sick instead. We hung around at his place for a while, playing Starcraft, then went into town to do Christmas shopping. G. got me a CD drive, which I will install shortly, and I got him a pool cue, which he seemed delighted with. G. had got paid that day, and I did my best to restrain him from spending all his money at once!
In the evening, I had a quick bath and changed, then we rushed to the KSR for a swift pint (G was hoping to try out his new cue, but the tables were already occupied), then on to Charlie Chan's, where G had promised to buy me a meal. He agreed to share the vegetarian set menu for two, which to his surprise, he really enjoyed. Very nice time. Then to KSR again, where B was weird at me, telling me I was too wasted to talk to. (He was more wasted than I was, I'm sure.) G played a few games of pool with his new cue, but it didn't seem to improve his game much :-)
Then got a taxi to Greenend, where C was having a discreet partyette (as Helen would have put it!), attended mainly by Changeling players, including some I'd met before, particularly G's friend R. Nice enough party, though some of the people there were pretty weird. Then back to G's place where I fell asleep very soon!
G was supposed to be working this morning, but decided he was too hung over, and failed even to ring in to warn them. He got a bad-tempered phone call from them mid-morning. This counts as misconduct, apparently. I hope he finds a job he actually likes before they fire him (which, I have to say, seems inevitable if he goes on like this).
Tonight, I'm going to my ex D's party. G will be along there late, after his Changeling game. I hope all goes well.
