Jul. 12th, 2002 10:11 pmHad excellent night last night with my old friend A (not old in absolute terms, I hasten to add, but whose friendship with me is of considerable duration :-) - he'd had a dinner party the previous night, and invited me and G round for the remnants of the meal (which were delicious) and several bottles of profit wine. Chatted much about the strangeness of College bureaucracy, parents' behaviour and nineteenth-century civil marriage laws. Then watched Alien on his laptop, at my insistence. He's going to write me a character reference for the letting agency.
Today has been pretty exhausting. Got up too soon after getting to bed; photocopied reference info for various people; went to Accommodation Office to organise a previous "landlord's" reference and to Records Office to organise an "employer's" reference (neither of these terms are exactly suitable for my situation, but whatever). Transferred money from savings to current account to pay ridiculous sum of deposit + six months' rent in advance + administration charges (what admin? we have to obtain all the bloody references for them!) next week. Rang letting agency to check various details and warn them about a faxed reference heading their way. Woke G up and we went off to the Jobcentre for him to sign on. While he chatted to them, I used the jobhunting machines there to look for admin jobs he could apply for, and gave him a bundle of little printouts at the end. Back into the centre to AE Clothier to hire him a suit for tomorrow's Midsummer Dinner at college; discovered that AE Clothier have moved temporarily to Pembroke St; went to Pembroke St and hired suit from extremely strange two men who work there; went to Homewise on Hill's Rd to get previous landlord's reference for G (paying L23.50 for the privilege of having a 16-year-old type it up laboriously in front of us); went to new agents on Mill Road to deliver assorted references (all seemed ok - phew!) and check various details (and got to look at the flat again - it rocks!); went to Midsummer Common to look at the Pop in the Park stuff the council have set up (including the bizarre Zerg colony
kaet referred to) but didn't actually pay for anything due to spending so much already today; went back to Chesterton via Onestop to get food. G rang up for job contacts. Made dinner; fell asleep for a bit while G played Swat3.
Tomorrow I intend to laze around reading Greek and do no boring organisational stuff at all.
