Aug. 16th, 2002 12:14 pmMm, A came over for dinner last night. I'd planned to make Quorn roast but Sainsbury's have stopped stocking it, so I made gnocchi again. It took ages this time - the very hot weather made the dough unmanageably sticky even though I added loads of flour (I was unwilling to add more in case it made the gnocchi too heavy). Poor A had to wait an hour and a half after arriving before I could feed him. But everyone seemed to appreciate the food. We had plums from the market which I'd stewed earlier, and cream afterwards. Mm. But there's too much washing-up left to do now! A brought us a gift of a money plant for the flat. Apparently they don't need much watering, so perhaps the poor thing will survive our joint crapness at remembering to water plants.
Over the road, the builders have finished refurbishing the forecourt of the council building. It looks very nice, and some council gardeners are planting various shrubs in some earth sections the builders had left. The recycling bins have been moved so that they are even closer to our flat, which is incredibly convenient. (We need to recycle quite a lot of glass each week, being the alcoholics that we are.) I wonder if I should write to the council, praising them on the forecourt renovation? I dare say they'd be quite surprised. Possibly they'd think I was rather odd, if I said I'd been following the progress of the work with keen interest over the last few weeks. But I have!
