Oct. 18th, 2002 05:26 pmToday I was supposed to meet
oakdryad for coffee and a chat about post-academia prospects, but somehow it didn't quite work out and we didn't manage to find each other. Never mind; I'm sure we'll sort something out soon.
On Tuesday, G's friend DE came up from London to go to the Calling with us. G's prospective best man was also supposed to be coming up, but he just got made redundant (like half the people I know, it seems) and didn't feel like it in the end. But we had a good time with DE; went to the Kingston Arms first for dinner, then drank ever so much wine at the Calling, and chatted, and suchlike. Part way through the evening I asked G quietly whether he thought DE disliked me; G said that DE had just asked him whether _I_ disliked _him_! So I guess we were both being a bit paranoid. Chatted a lot to
grahamb, which I don't usually do - that was pleasant. And most of the rest of the crowd were there too. Saw my ex D in some very nice red boots; said hi.
hampsterboy gave us lots of strawberry laces, too! Don't recall much else; too drunk.
Wednesday G had taken off, which was just as well. We hung around with DE until he had to catch his train home - showed him round Cambridge (some colleges, Castle Mound, KSR basically!). Ended up being persuaded by him to watch the first half of a football game, England vs. Macedonia, in the pub. Not really my thing, but interesting enough to do once in a while.
Last night I got remarkably drunk for no good reason, and have been feeling unwell all day as a result. I probably won't drink anything at the pub tonight (well, _probably_). I'm not entirely sure how I got so drunk, although the wine was a couple of percent stronger than what we usually get, and I may have had more than my fair share of it due to G being too engrossed in Dungeon Siege to drink much. I remember first reading a book on the history of French, then finding that too hardcore to concentrate on, and switching to the Tombs of Atuan. Part way through it I burst into tears because it reminded me of something in my childhood, I think. The end of the evening is a blank; apparently I fell asleep on the sofa and G carried me to bed, where I woke this morning half-dressed :-)
