vyvyanxWell, the evil Russell's landlord declined to let us occupy his scuzzy flat on Mill Road due to the irregularity of not having a proper credit reference for me. I felt pretty dismayed at this, as you may imagine, as I was worrying that the same thing might recur with other agencies. What's the use of having savings if no one is prepared to let you use them to pay for accommodation?
But then we went to Crofton and saw a flat just next door to them (also on Mill Road; somewhat closer to town and absolutely lovely) which is a bit more expensive but includes council tax and water rates and so isn't that different in the end after all - and put down a holding deposit on it. Now we just need to get references for them, and we should get the keys next Wednesday! Fingers crossed!
And then we went to the Maypole to talk to them about trying to book the place for our reception...and they didn't dismiss the idea out of hand! Hope springs eternal. Maybe everything is not so shit after all.
