On Friday I spent a while rather fruitlessly trying to organise travel to Eastercon. I'm just waiting for a reply to my email now. G connected to my machine via putty and we had a talk session up most of the afternoon; very useful for keeping track of things. In the evening, G came over and we went briefly to a small beer festival at the USSC, but there was hardly anyone else there so we left after a pint. We then went to the KSR, where G played pool and drank snakebite and black, and I chatted a bit to various people, mainly GC. R was supposed to turn up, but didn't.
Yesterday, G slept most of the day, and then read more of the Gap; I faffed around on usenet and reading livejournals, and did a bit more Japanese. I also went to Sainsbury's to get food and wine for A's party in the evening. I cooked a nice stew with mashed potato, and after that we headed across the courtyard to the party.
Saw many people from my past: David, who I used to go out with, who's put on loads on weight (he's not at all fat, it's just he was painfully thin when I last saw him); Adrian, who I last saw at the beer festival the night I slept with W (who was in a surprisingly pleasant mood); Rebecca, who's just finished her PhD (she was my college "child" when I was in my third year); A's German friend Heidi, who G got on very well with; A's London friend J (who spent the night with TF at the end of last November) etc. Also met A's new bloke - lovely chap, obviously adores A. He seemed very concerned to make a good impression on me, and was relieved that I liked him. I think A must have talked a lot to him about how long and close our friendship has been, the years we lived together, and that sort of thing.
Danced a bit to recent chart dance shit, and to the Police with a couple of older partygoers :-) G seemed initially rather shy, then cheerful and talkative with everyone, then difficult and verging on insulting to several people, then starting falling over, and finally collapsed on the stairs in a fit of great despondency. A seemed somewhat perturbed, and so I removed G with considerable difficulty and dragged him back to my room. Here, he became briefly violent (towards a chair, not towards me) which scared and upset me. He then apologised, and passed out on the bed. I eventually managed to get him into bed, and so to sleep.
I wish G wouldn't get like this sometimes. I don't know what to do about it though.
