Yesterday was quite tiring. I woke quite early in spite of the previous night's overindulgence, went to the Coop and Londis and got lots of heavy shopping. Then went to college via the market (to get fresh veg etc.) and picked up my nearly overdue library books. Went to UL with them, and checked some final details for my article (which I'll submit today) - reassured myself of the plausibility of Kamassian (an extinct Uralic language) having borrowed basic vocabulary from Turkic. Was annoyed by the new library catalogue system. What was wrong with the old VMS catalogue? The current one is much slower to use (requires use of a mouse as well as a keyboard), doesn't seem to let me view subject headings with number of books contained in each, and is very unstable (about half the terminals seemed to have crashed or undergone bizarre errors in the Catalogue Room). (In complaining like this, I can't help thinking of the lightbulb joke about Trinity fellows, but too bad!)
Came back to room; got heavy suitcase of clothes and other stuff and somehow dragged them to the bus stop, and then up several flights of stairs to our flat. Somehow found space to store the extra stuff. Made dinner; we ate it. Watched some Blackadder and went to bed.

Q: How many Trinity fellows does it take to change a lightbulb?
A: Change? CHANGE?!

There's always the paper catalogue. I used to use that where possible, because no-one else does. :-)

Alas, it's not up to date, or I would use it in general as well. As it is, I use it for books before 1978, or whatever the date is.

Yeah, I am fed up with the new library system too. I like the vast metallic silver screens and the fact there is room for a laptop by the screen now, though - I was fed up with having to balance my laptop precariously when entering screens and screens of call numbers!

Congrats on the article :)
