(no subject)

Yesterday I made bread. Now I'm eating some of it. Mmm.
A generally pleasant weekend, in which I sent off more stuff to do with my book to the OUP, went shopping a bit, made various meals, had a bath, went to KSR on Saturday night, went to Portland Arms on Sunday night, and caught up on lots of sleep missed last week. GC came back for a drink and a chat (and an small argument about the nature of metal) on Saturday, and G went swimming with various goths on Sunday. Apparently he did a lot of impressive diving. He wants me to come along next week, but I'm dubious due to being unable to see without my glasses. G insists I could wear my glasses while swimming, but I think it sounds dangerous. Also, they might slip off in the deep end and sink out of reach (and out of view).
Ah, this weather is more like September - grey and damp. I suppose that was the summer then!

i've never had problems combing the bottom of the deep end, i'm sure one of yer black-bathing-suited friends could easily retrieve them.

what you should really worry about is sharks.

I've swum in glasses without too much trouble, and they don't tend to fall off really. And the deep end at Parkside isn't really all that deep, so someone with better eyesight could easily find them for you if they did. But it depends just how bad your eyesight is. If you can see people shaped blobs that's probably enough to avoid bumping into people :-) You can get prescription goggles, but I'd guess they're expensive.

If your glasses were to fall off i could swim down and get them in seconds so you wouldn't be without sight for very long at all.
This extends of course to all the glasses-wearing goths :)

Swimming seems a slightly strange activity for goths to do together, but hey :) I have strange visions of people wearing black victorian-style bathing costumes now...

i've got to the bottom of the diving pool before, though it makes your ears go funny... so glasses would be retrievable... - alternative solutions: prescription goggles are available... and daily disposable contact lenses... (they don't tend to fall out unless you dive in with your eyes open) the other option is, of course, to go blind, which is how i used to have to do it...
i imagine wearing glasses would be ok though...
twas fun last week.....

oh and how do you make bread, and have it rise and taste nice (ie not of yeast)????

3.8 metres... didn't get all the way down by diving, but sinking slowly - and it still felt slightly like my ears would implode... maybe i have funny ears - but i think its the deepest thing i've ever touched the bottom of...

My ears do that in deep diving pools sometimes... generally i breathe out hard through my nose on the way down which helps with the ears as well as not getting water up my nose. But i haven't duck-dived that far before.

I _guess_ glasses could be retrieved, either by me or someone else, but I'd worry they'd get scratched (and they were expensive enough!). Likewise, as LNR says, prescription goggles would be pretty costly for something I'd only do rarely anyway (a couple of hundred pounds for my prescription, I expect). I've tried contact lenses before, and they were agony, so I don't really feel like doing that again. Going blind is what I've always done in the past, and just about coped, but the last time was several years ago and I know my eyes have got a lot worse since then (about -9 in both eyes now, plus astigmatism).
But maybe I'm just making excuses :-)
For the bread, I just followed the recipe on the yeast packet (Hovis fast action bread yeast, from Co-op), and it didn't seem to taste of yeast at the end. I've turned the remainder of it into serious garlic bread now!
