Nov. 5th, 2002 09:43 amHm, what's been happening recently? Everyone went to Whitby, came back and wrote long lj accounts. G's best man D came up from London, finally, on Friday night, by which point G was very drunk and annoyed, and then the two of them sat up until 8 on Saturday morning drinking whisky and arguing. I was trying to sleep, but they were playing music and Tron so loud that I kept waking up. Eventually G came to bed and passed out lying on top of all the covers, managing to occupy every part of the bed as he did so, and refused to be woken or moved. So I gave it up as a bad job and got up.
Saturday night we went out to the KSR with D. GC turned up after a bit (we'd also been drinking with him on Friday night). Chatted and drank with him until closing time; then the four of us came back to Mill Road and drank more. G and D had a long chat about The Past in London, AFAICT, and I had a long discussion/argument with GC which variously covered Chomsky, anorexia, irritating people, and ideal female waist to hip ratios (on which topic I was mostly talking bollocks, I now think). All much fun and I hope I didn't annoy
zotz too much. He went about 4, and I watched the end of Human Traffic with G and D. (Good film; well worth seeing. About young people going out and taking drugs and actually having quite a good time, rather than instantly dying or going mad or attacking other people).
Sunday, G and D slept all day (like, until 5 or 6pm) and then D went home. On Monday, G felt too ill to go in to work, and spent all day fixing his OS instead. In the evening, we went out for a meal at the Kohinoor (discount vegetarian night on Mondays :-) which was very nice and made a change from me cooking all the time.
Also, I've been playing lots of nethack in the /dev/null tournament, which runs all through November. Haven't ascended yet, but my current game is looking pretty good (touch wood!). I really like the latest version of nethack - I hadn't played 3.4 before the tournament; it has some great features. Nice to have some new Mine Town and Mine Bottom levels - makes a change. And touchstones are a great idea.
