So, I'm still kind of hungover, I still hurt all over from my encounter with W, and I have a stupid new haircut. But somehow, I don't care!
At the beer festival so far, I have tried: Oakleaf: Blake's Heaven (7%, dark); Stonehenge: Rudolph (5%, darkish); Lidstones: Extra Strong Winter Stout (6.2%, dark, lovely); Old Chimneys: Good King Henry Imperial Stout (9%, very dark, sweet and treacle-like!), and, I think, Old Chimneys: Winter Cloving (7.2%, dark, supposed to have cloves in it but I couldn't taste them). And of course, lots of Cassels' medium-sweet cider (7.3%, very nice as usual). I took the approach of alternating halves of beer with halves of cider, for no particular reason. Since there's only Cassels in the way of cider, I've not been drinking as much cider as I usually would, so I'm taking the opportunity to try a range of winter ales.
This evening, provided I can get in on the door (might be a problem with tickets) I think I might try Elgoods' Wenceslas Winter Warmer, 7.5%, apparently flavoured with cinnamon and orange, and Carlow's Curim Gold (I wonder if that should be Cuirm?) - 4.3%, described as a "peachy-tasting wheat beer", which sounds kind of intriguing.
I wonder who will be at the festival tonight? I chatted a lot to mcv behind the bar last night, and ran into Rob, O and (girlfriend?) K, who I talked to a lot about Venn diagrams. Later V turned up and we chatted a lot about our various relationships. She was dumped at New Year as well, by osd, but is still seeing S (also working at the festival). Near the end, JM and SA turned up. Their relationship seems to be going very well; they got together about the same time I got together with D, early 2000. Before that I was quite close friends with SA, but that's lapsed since JM and I get on very badly. Ah well, I don't begrudge SA that - he's so much happier now.
