Can any of you hardcore TV SF fans help me with a mystery concerning The Outer Limits? In the first series, I saw an episode called "The New Breed" about nanotech gone mad, in which a character developed gills, eyes in the back of his head etc. Recently, we got hold of the first series, and it contains an episode called "The New Breed" which I never saw before, in which a college student develops an insatiable sexual appetite as a result of touching an alien meteorite. (OK, they're pretty silly plots, but who cares :-) I am mystified, and I would also really like to see this nanotech episode again. I'm sure I'm not imagining it, because Google has episode guides which give references to both these episodes (under the same title) - but I haven't yet found any sources which mention both stories at the same time, or explain what dubious cover-up has occurred!

I can't answer your question, but weren't there two series called The Outer Limits, one from the 1960s and a remake/relaunch in the 1990s?

Yes, but I've never seen any of the original series. The references to these two versions of the episode "The New Breed" on Google are definitely talking about the 1990s first series.

From what I remember, the episode The New Breed (http://www.scifi.com/outerlimits/episodes/season1/114newbreed.html) from the first season of the New Outer Limits bore an uncanny resemblance to Greg Bear's Blood Music. Good episode, if my memory serves me correctly.

However, despite some speculation as to the origin of that episode (http://nanobot.blogspot.com/2005/02/nanobots-control-horizontal-and.html), Bear is not credited on it, nor does he list it as an adaptation of his work (http://www.gregbear.com/A55885/Bear.nsf/pages/100027).

Ooh, I remember the nanotech one. That was the 1990's version, wasn't it? Afraid I can't help any more.

They did a 1990's series? Whoa, I don't think I knew that... Though I loved the originals, of which I've seen some but not nearly all (the one that sticks in my mind involved Mark Hamill). Um, sorry for not volunteering anything useful.
