A pleasant surprise and an unpleasant surprise

Today I went to the optician, having finally summoned up enough tuits, cash and courage (I'd been putting it off for 3 and a half years since the last trip was so unpleasant and dispiriting). To my surprise and delight, I was told that my eyesight has pretty much stabilised - only a tiny increase in myopia (prescription is now -8.00, -7.75, just at the limit of what Vision Express have in stock!) and actually an improvement in astigmatism. Wow. I've only been waiting for this for the last 23 years...

Less agreeably, I stepped into the bath this morning to take a shower (minus my glasses, of course) and only realised once the water was on that something large and black was swirling around my feet. Alarmed, I exited the bath and put on my glasses to look at it. It was a 3 inch spider! After about 5 minutes, I managed to get close enough to the bath to turn the water off. (The spider was quite unharmed, don't worry.) I was, however, unable to get near enough to the spider to catch and remove it, so I'll just have to wait for G to get home before I can have a shower :-)

I once saw an enormous spider hiding behind the mirror hung from the wall. I just managed to see the furry hairiness of it reflected in the mirrored wall tiles.

I waited for my husband to get home to go and tackle it.

He lifted the mirror back and we found the spider - it was the hessian string hanging the mirror which was a little unravelled.

Argh! I was terrorised by a huge moth[1] while I was in the shower today. It wiggled its antenae at me. I was seriously freaked out.
