I don't seem to be scared of spiders any more. All my life I have been terrified of them; then in recent months I have felt my fear gradually fading. Tonight, I found a 2-inch spider in the bath, and was able to actually touch it with my finger. I then caught it in a glass with a piece of paper, and put it outside.

Given that I once spent all night sleeping in my college set living room because a spider was on the wall of my bedroom - having stuffed the cracks of the adjoining door with newspaper - this feels like quite a breakthrough!

I don't know what's brought it on.

Hurrah! Well done. The glass and paper trick is a good way of catching them. I do try to think that if there was a choice, I'd prefer to be near a spider than a buzzing fly :)

Phobias are a strange, they can come on suddenly but disappear quickly too.

Nice to see you both last Tuesday btw :-)

I still have such phobias, but I have noticed them decrease in recent years.

Spiders are great (well, except poisonous ones indoors, I would draw the line there if that ever happened in the UK). There are several orb spiders in my back garden, each seems to have picked a spot to spin a web. They hide somewhere at night and morning, then in the afternoon they rebuild their web as necessary and hang out in the middle of it until late evening. Watching them build a web is really nifty, it takes them about half an hour.

That's seriously impressive. I still run screaming from the things. If you work out what's made you so stoic, let us know and I'll copy you :)

BTW, they've recently been filming a Midsomer Murders in Long Crendon. (It's not shown yet).

I'm not sure if you'll recognise any of these.

Thanks - they do look rather familiar! Some episodes of Jeeves and Wooster were filmed in Long Crendon some years ago too - I guess it's that kind of place :-)

BTW, have you heard from Marcie or Michaela recently? I've gathered indirectly that they both seem to have had rather dramatic life-events in the last couple of weeks...

Indeed, excllent news on both fronts!

I hadn't heard that Marice had given birth until earlier tonight, though.
