Mar. 18th, 2002 02:59 pmSo, went to Commem. Feast on Friday evening. Nice food and alcohol; sat next to 2nd year compsci called Paul. We chatted throughout the meal, about programming languages mostly. The speeches weren't too long, and after the meal I went briefly to the bar, where the Dean's Party was taking place, and chatted to Arthur Norman about compsci and former compscis we both knew.
Came back to room, just in time to let G and GC in, who had just got back from the KSR. G was really drunk; we all drank gin and I showed GC my tree diagram of Indo-European languages, produced using software intended for biological classification. He seemed quite interested. He and G also talked at some length about the world wars. And then to bed.
Got up on Saturday, feeling groggy; with great difficulty got G up and we went off to the coach stop to catch the X5. Were just on time; unfortunately, the coach was already full, so we had to catch the next one, an hour later. Rather unpleasant journey, as I felt pretty sick. Met my parents in Buckingham, and so back to Crendon.
Had generally very nice time at home; G seemed to like the house and my parents a lot; we watched lots of Blackadder (1st and 2nd series) and a program my mum had recorded about 70s and 80s rock and metal. Sunday morning, got up earlyish and my mum redyed my hair. It's come out quite well, I think. After a nice lunch, G and I hung around in my old room playing my vinyl singles from the early 80s. Including Prince Charming (B side Christian D'or) and the theme tune to Doctor Who with Tom Baker (B side The Astronauts - a wonderful piece by the BBC Radiophonic Workshop). Also highly dodgy Eurocrap (D.I.S.C.O. etc) which G found most upsetting :-) Was persuaded to bring my guitar and amp back to Cambridge.
Parents drove us back in the afternoon; dropped us off at G's place and left straight away. G read his email and sorted out some music to play at his set tomorrow at the Calling - should be fun! Ate some chocolate cake, then, with G's housemate L, caught the bus back into town. G wanted to drink Guinness in the KSR, on account of it being St Patrick's day.
In the KSR, G and L played a bit of pool, and I chatted a lot to a guy called Tristan, who I've seen around before, but hadn't met properly. We talked about angband, compsci, and Goths We Know. Generally pleasant time, though I found myself rather irritated by L being around, though I'm not entirely sure why. He's an odd sort of guy.
Came back to my room and drank gin and had a pleasant chat about stuff (TM). And so to bed. This morning G felt too ill to go to work, so I left a phone message for his boss; hopefully he won't get into trouble for this.
Oh, also, last night, finally told G about the existence of this livejournal...not quite sure why, just seemed a good idea at the time :-)
