Mar. 22nd, 2002 02:30 pmWell, yesterday I posted a lot to usenet about linguistics and moral relativism, and went to the UL to hunt down books on Armenian. Why is it that there are any number of excellent grammars of Classical Armenian, but no useful dictionaries, whereas there are a variety of good dictionaries of Modern Armenian, but no available grammars?! It's ridiculous; I don't mind particularly whether I collect data from Classical or Modern Armenian (though Classical would be better) but the available material seems to be contriving to thwart me. I borrowed a couple of books in the end, but I'll go back there later today and see if I can find anything better.
Went and met G after work, detouring briefly to HMV to buy an Ultraviolence album. Why HMV regard Ultraviolence as metal I can't imagine. We came back via Sainsbury's, where I got the materials for a curry (at last!) and of course some more Sainsbury's Economy Gin. (There are a ridiculous number of empty bottles of Economy Gin and Vodka in the corner of my room waiting to be recycled - my bedder must think I'm a complete alcoholic.)
Made the curry while G read stuff on my computer, and I think it turned out quite well in the end. Rang up various people trying to get them to come to the pub; hung around for a bit drinking gin, then headed off to the KSR. G played lots of pool (he's indignant that I maligned his pool-playing abilities in my lj last December :-) and I chatted quite a bit to GC about...um, I can't quite remember now. The whole evening became rather hazy at this point, though I recall mystically sensing that E had arrived in the pub at exactly the moment he did arrive (or perhaps it was just luck :-). Came back to college, drank more gin, chatted amiably for some time, did various fun things, and then I suppose we must have gone to bed.
This morning, alas, I slept in too late to get G in to work on time again, but he seems to have caught some sort of cold anyway, so I guess he probably wouldn't have wanted to go in anyway. Have written mildly pissed-off email to my parents, urging them to let me know what's bothering them _before_ Eastercon.
I think I will go to the Cambridge Cheese Company this afternoon and get some nice cheese. I really ought to do my laundry too, but I don't think I'll bother.
