Finally I get round to a writeup! Last Wednesday was spent mostly in the KSR having a pre-Whitby warming-up drinking session with GB, and later talking much to [livejournal.com profile] technotom about random strangeness and to [livejournal.com profile] _dionysus_ about mystical things. Eventually, all v. drunk, got lift with GC back to G's place, where G, T and I drank, smoked and ate cheesy waffles until a foolish time of the morning.
Next day around midday, [livejournal.com profile] zotz came round to pick us up. We had made plans to share a cottage in Whitby with him and [livejournal.com profile] robinbloke, so after bundling our few bags and Rex the beeblebear into the car, we headed over to Bar Hill to get R. The drive up was pleasant; I got to sit in the front, so I didn't get car-sick, and chatted to GC or listened to Radio 1 while the others read or dozed in the back. R was working his way gamely through Cryptonomicon, and G was reading Flux (which is an ace book; I wholly recommend the Xeelee sequence). We stopped at a Little Chef for some food. I thought it was quite nice, but GC seemed irritated by them running out of the vegetarian breakfasts, and didn't eat anything at all in the end, which I felt rather bad about.
After getting through the impressive gradients to Whitby itself, I called up a woman about the cottage keys, and she directed us to it. Scoresby cottage theoretically sleeps four, but it probably would have been more comfortable for three - there was a double room which G and I got, and a living room-cum-kitchen with a sofa, where R and (occasionally!) GC slept. A nice place though. We just dropped our bags off there, and headed straight over to the Elsinore. GC seemed in a bad mood at this point, and I wondered if he was disappointed by the cottage, or irritated by the drive up, but it transpired it was nothing to do with this, and anyway he fortunately seemed to cheer up later.
At the pub, there were the expected black-clad hordes milling around outside and in - saw [livejournal.com profile] darkgoblin, [livejournal.com profile] eviltwinemma, [livejournal.com profile] kboyd, [livejournal.com profile] grahamb, [livejournal.com profile] mrph (very drunk already!), [livejournal.com profile] shekhmet and later [livejournal.com profile] surje and E, and [livejournal.com profile] kitty_goth - perhaps also [livejournal.com profile] ciphergoth, or maybe that was later in the weekend. Anyway. Hung around for several hours drinking and chatting, and many photos were taken. (I've seen one where G seems to be cheerfully strangling me! :-) Unfortunately, later in the evening the intensity of social interaction seemed to result in a certain amount of bad feeling among various camgoths; with people rushing out or breaking down. It was not helped by a fierce-looking and very drunk woman at an adjacent table, who tried to intervene, and ended up fighting and pulling hair. We all left around this point, and apparently the woman got barred (though I saw her back in the Elsinore the next day with a different hairdo).
On Friday, G, R and I had lunch with sj, E and a rather alarming old friend of G's called Lisa; then some of us went to the bazaar, where I got the new VNV album and another Ultraviolence album (still can't find one with Psychodrama on it, unfortunately). Also got shiny silver mainly-decorative waspie thing from the bring and buy stall. For G, got assorted makeup, nice PVC jeans and excellent aviator-style shades. Unfortunately, he can't see much while wearing them, so he has to stand still and just look cool. I had wanted to get some fingerless gloves, like Gina has, but there didn't seem to be any stalls selling such things this year - bother. Then returned to pub for a bit, before going to get ready for the Spa. Wore my black dress with new silver thing that night.
Memory of Spa that night is a bit hazy - I recall G and CJ and sj having some sort of battle involving white face powder; I recall a strange cocktail with a sugar snake in it; I recall the bands not being terribly exciting. Oh, I also remember dancing with G, E, R and some others, while R wore chainmail - respect! He was shattered by the time we got back that night.
(Enough for now; will carry on later.)

Hey, I had an excuse.. it was my birthday...! :-) (What am I saying... I don't need an excuse, it was Whitby!)

I'm glad to say that I missed the drunk woman entirely, too. *sigh*
