May. 9th, 2002 05:32 pmWhat have I been doing the last few days? Well, on Sunday evening we walked over to King's Hedges (not Cherry Hinton; I was mistaken) to visit T and her fiance. We watched TV, a video of "Four Rooms" (an ace film which I saw the first half of at E's place last year some time, and always wanted to see the end of) and an Eddie Izzard video. Also drank gin and smoked dope. In spite of this, I couldn't really relax (or even, strangely, get drunk or stoned) and said very little to G's old friends all night. But he seemed to have a good time.
Monday bank holiday we caught a train to Welwyn Garden City for a meal out for G's youngest brother's birthday. Saw all his family again, and had a really nice time - I am getting to know them all better now.
On Tuesday we lurked indoors all day; yesterday I had to get up early and come into college to mark revision essays left by my supervisees. They were quite good; the supervision itself went pretty well too. Oh, G also came round and we went to AE Clothier to hire black tie for the Ascension Feast in Trinity tonight. Don't go to Moss Bros to hire suits; they're very expensive - AE Clothier are much more reasonable. In the evening we ate a picnic-type meal at G's place and watched Star Trek. Then G played his new version of Counterstrike for a long time, and I read Salt. It's a really interesting book; quite reminiscent of Le Guin's The Dispossessed; also slightly of some Orson Scott Card. One of the two main characters, Petja, reminds me strangely of my ex D in some ways. But anyway, I thoroughly recommend this book.
Tonight we're going to the feast and will be sitting (as luck would have it) next to my best friend A and his guest Steve from London. Tomorrow G has an interview in Bar Hill - hurrah! But on a lower note, his bastard ex-employers have contacted him to say they accidentally overpaid him in his last pay cheque and could he pay back a couple of 100 pounds ASAP? Also the jobcentre is being crap and not paying him any benefit due to administrative errors. Still, we shall not be disheartened!
