May. 10th, 2002 12:47 pmDear me, it has been a morning of absent-mindedness for me. I got G up despite our hangovers, and we went off to Drummer Street so he could catch a bus to Bar Hill for his interview. I realised on the way to the bus station that I'd left the hired suit back in my room. So, after G departed, I went back to college and fetched the suit, then walked to AE Clothier. The guy there checked through the package, and asked where the bow tie was. Alarmed, I ran back to Trinity, but it wasn't in the room, nor in A's room where we ended up last night. A thought G might have put the tie in his pocket at some point, so I ran back to AE Clothier and found that the tie was indeed still in the jacket pocket. Silly me.
Anyway, the feast last night was very nice. We had a particularly tasty wine with the asparagus course - called Gewuerztraminer Trimbach (1997) according to the menu which I have here. It tasted amusingly of lychees. The food was all v. nice too, and the choir sang, and afterwards we drank more in the Combination Room, and I chatted to Malcolm Perry about supernovae, and G chatted to someone's obnoxious guest who turned out to be an arms dealer, and apparently told him he was a wanker :-) And afterwards we went back to A's room, along with his guest Steve from London, where we drank even more and played I Have Never, as you do. Eventually A and S were very tired, so we came back to my room and drank more, and G spilt tobacco all over my carpet again, and then we got to sleep really late. Hopefully G won't feel too hung over at his interview!

Date: 2002-05-10 05:09 am (UTC)The firts time I had it I was visiting a Californian winery in the Napa Valley. It was a great place .. it actually had a mock-Shakespearean open theatre in the shape of a round .... and they held actual plays there during the sumemr, and people would bring picnics and watch. We were charmed. It turned out that the winery was run by an ex-English teacher, who declared sombrely that "teaching drove him to it." *Giggle!*
(I love teaching though. And last year I had entire classes about absinthe and chartreuse.)
