vyvyanxHurrayyyy! All my marking is finished! 90-odd essays marked and commented on since Friday (when I got them). Tomorrow I meet my colleague to collate and agree marks, and then in the afternoon we have a bigger meeting with the other markers for the paper to agree marks for each candidate based on the whole paper, and then in about a week I have three even bigger meetings involving the whole Faculty and all the externals, to assign overall marks and classes to candidates, based on all their papers. But the worst is now over. And I can go to the Calling tonight!
Managed to go to Strawberry Fair quite late on Saturday afternoon. G and I took 8 cans of cider and drank them; also met T and K and shared a spliff; got pancakes; ran to the KSR when it began to rain; briefly saw G's friend T and her fiance there; watched people play pool (G actually beat E in one game!). Then shared taxi with GB and EB back to Chesterton, and G and I watched Shrek and drank a bottle of champagne his parents had given us a while ago. We'd meant to save it for a special occasion, but we haven't had any recently, so we just drank it anyway. Were both in extremely good moods and very affectionate.
Sunday evening we watched Predator, which I hadn't seen before, and which was quite fun. Yesterday evening, we went to the KSR, hoping to meet R and I., but they weren't there, so came back to my room with T, K and KFB to get very drunk variously on gin, wine, sherry and beer. (We'd previously been drinking cider or snakebite.) G was overcome by the effects of this alarming mixture of drinks, to the detriment of the bathroom floor, and was very hungover today. Had very enjoyable evening, quoting poetry at each other, drawing dubious charts of sexual links between geeks and goths in Cambridge, and discovering that KFB knows alarming numbers of people from my murky past. (He was apparently doing Engineering here at the same time as IWJ.)
Today, as well as lots of marking, went into town with G to get my ring resized (it's too large, and I was wearing it on the wrong finger anyway, or so everyone tells me :-) It couldn't be resized, as the difference was too great, so they've ordered me another one, which I should get in a week or two. Also ordered lovely ring for G (similar to mine, but a bit chunkier). That should arrive in a couple of weeks too. Hurray!
