Yesterday was pretty exhausting too. After unpacking various things and getting my computer set up, I went over to have lunch with G, and then briefly to college to do final admin things, like handing my key in at the Porters' Lodge, leaving forwarding address and so on. Came back via market (to get potatoes and tomatoes) and flopped for a bit in the flat. Then went and told my bank my new address (the woman tried to interest me in a sodding Gold account again!), to post letters, get stuff from the Co-op and Londis (and, incidentally, got some nice olives and sun-dried tomatoes from Limoncello), before popping into our letting agency to ask Elaine about picture hooks. I had brought some sample hooks with me, which she decided were acceptable. So I went back home and put up pictures around the flat. They look groovy!
G came back quite late (lots of people turned up at the Benefits Office at the last moment wanting emergency giros, so he had to stay until they were done) and we had dinner, watched a Blackadder one-off (the Cavalier Years) and went to bed quite early.
Oh, I'm talking to my mother again. She seems in a more reasonable frame of mind at last; actually taking an interest in what's happening in my life, rather than what she'd like to happen.

Had strange phone call with my mum today. She seems to be more accepting of my engagement atm, in external behaviour at least. She and my dad will be coming over here in a couple of weeks to bring me a mirror from my old room in their house, which I asked for. They'll also be able to see our flat, and we can go out for a meal at one of the many restaurants on Mill Road. Which will (hopefully) be nice. My mother also said that my dad wants to give us some money towards the reception, which is very surprising. She still sounded rather strained and odd on the phone, but I can't hold her internal feelings against her really, as long as she acts towards me reasonably. It's all very strange.
Also emailed guy at OUP today, about publishing my book. I met him at a conference several years ago (possibly as much as 5 years ago) when I was presenting a paper based on my PhD research. He seemed to like it (and the audience response) and gave me his card, saying I should contact him when I finished my thesis, if I wanted to publish it. I actually finished my thesis in 1999, but being crap, I failed to contact him then. Now I have lots of exciting additional research to include in a book, so I'm contacting him. I sent him a short account of the book, but have also prepared a detailed proposal, in accordance with OUP's guidelines, which I will send him if he is interested. Fingers crossed.
Tonight G is playing Counterstrike with various people. Tomorrow night we'll be roleplaying with [livejournal.com profile] emperor and [livejournal.com profile] mobbsy (and usually [livejournal.com profile] robinbloke, but not this week, I think) which should be fun! First session for a _long_ time.

To those who have asked, we will have a flatwarming soon. :-)
