Calling was much fun. T and K were there, and gave us lovely presents from their holiday. They're coming round tonight for dinner - hurray! Talked quite a bit to [livejournal.com profile] meirion about work and stuff, and to RRW about, well, work and stuff. I guess I won't be seeing him on the C4 and C5 much more - I've graduated to the C2 now! (Not that buses are generally necessary now, since we're much closer to the centre.) Many people were there - [livejournal.com profile] robinbloke (with new beardless look!), [livejournal.com profile] alixandrea, [livejournal.com profile] firewoman, [livejournal.com profile] kboyd, [livejournal.com profile] dreamserpent, [livejournal.com profile] simont etc. And of course [livejournal.com profile] zotz, who kindly gave us a lift back at the end again. Great music - I particularly recall dancing much to Sarah's set. Mm, fun. Were both pretty smashed when we got back, and G broke a glass. Happily it wasn't one of my beer festival ones.
G is entirely moved in now - all his stuff from Enniskillen Road is over here now, the checkout there was done on Monday (I went and lent a hand cleaning in the morning). To everyone's surprise, they got their deposits back (with only one deduction) and Homewise said the place looked cleaner than when they'd all moved in! I still have a certain amount of stuff to bring from my place, but it's getting there!
Hey, I just thought of a poll I could do:
[Poll #51930]
Update: I was surprised that two people I've never heard of, who share no connections with me on their friends lists, answered my lampshade poll! Maybe some people just like answering polls, whatever they're about.

...but beware of those spherical paper ones like we had at the Empire - they're a right PITA when you need to change bulbs.

Indeed, they were quite cool. I guess you could consider white paper lampshades as a blank canvas, and draw funky things on them...

They're not *that* bad are they? You just scrunch them up until the bulb and the socket both stick out of the hole at the bottom. Not much worse than having to bend uplighter style shades over out of the way.

I had a square paper lampshade as a kid, which was rather nice, same principle of collapsing and a hole in the bottom and top to get the bulb in and out, but with folded paper and straight sticks which stuck right out at the corners for the structural integrity. It was nice actually, but I've not seen one anywhere else.

Shades with just a small hole at the bottom like this presumably meet Simon's criteria for not blinding people. [Simon, you don't have to use 100W bulbs everywhere ;-]. Possibly easier to find ones which aren't twee and pastel coloured too. I like our big lampshades in our living room but Simon probably doesn't. They're just very different, and you get neat echo effects if you walk under one of them mid-sentence.

Well, that's the theory, yes. Ours had a bit of metal in the way, and never quite seemed to want to scrunch up properly. Maybe I'm just cack-handed...
