Aug. 17th, 2002 12:24 pmToday is Saturday. G has gone to a Changeling game and will be back in the evening. I am planning on making a pizza, and bought yeast for the purpose yesterday. Also, I shall walk into the centre and get some vegetables from the market, and more stuff from my college room (like a dish for our money plant to sit on). I have various things to read - I splashed out on a few books recently: Stephen Baxter's "Titan" (which I'm just getting into; very fat and rather slow-paced for a Baxter book, but pretty good so far), Jared Diamond's "Guns, Germs and Steel: A Short History of Everybody for the Last 13,000 Years" (which I read before when I borrowed it off
mobbsy, and keep wanting to refer to and reread) and a volume containing the complete works of Shakespeare, which was just sitting in the Salvation Army shop for L1.50, and so obviously had to be bought. I may also play some Starcraft - I'm redoing the original missions (for no particular reason) and have almost finished them. Unfortunately, this CD of the game seems to have become slightly damaged, resulting in the later Zerg missions not being accessible. Never mind.
Last night we went to a party on Mill Road - a housewarming for a couple of G's friends who I know slightly from WUS. The music at the party was very much to my taste, but I didn't really know anyone, and it took a while for the alcohol to take effect sufficiently for me to go and talk to people. Pleasant enough in the end, though. G seemed to have a good time; he also got very drunk, and rather difficult to deal with in the end. (There's a nice Old Norse word for someone who is difficult to deal with: odaell.) I extracted him with some effort, and when we got back home he refused to go to bed, even though he was obviously extremely tired and had to get up for his game the next day. In the end I persuaded him to lie on the sofa, where he promptly passed out, and remained there until 7am, when he woke, very hung over, and decided to play his new game (a simulation of the net, where you have to hack into computers for money). :-)
He has an interview at the Co-op on Monday. I hope it goes well.
