robinbloke came and picked us up and we went over to his place for an evening of pizza, drinking and films. His speakers are deeply impressive; likewise his new sideboard :-) Watched Mall Rats, which I hadn't seen before - I thought it was pretty good (though I think I prefer Clerks). Then Bound, which G and R hadn't seen before, but which I'd promised contained lesbian plumbers. I love that film. And finally Red Planet, which R and I had seen before, and has some lovely effects (lighting etc.)
Yesterday morning, R drove us back quite early in the day, and G got down to some serious playing of his new game (I think he played it nearly solidly from 11am to 9pm). I finished Titan, which is a fantastic book. It is a very typical Baxter book though - the plot is mostly based on long and arduous journeys with uncertain goals; there are endless detailed descriptions of astronomical phenomena and engineering works; the character interaction is extremely limited (mostly he focuses on one solitary character at a time); it features his idiosyncratic obsessions with excrement and sex in unusual circumstances. But it's still a fantastic book. Also yesterday, I made naan bread, which worked surprisingly well. In the evening, we watched Starship Troopers (again).
Last night I had three nightmares in a row, being woken up in fear each time. I think this is hardly fair, and shall make a formal complaint to my subconscious. The first one involved large spiders crawling on me (a staple of my nightmares); the second had aliens trying to shoot me in order to coerce my mother into mending the cracks in our wall (I think they must have been alien landlords, or something!); the third involved me apparently waking up in bed next to G and discovering I had several drawing pins embedded in my right wrist. Ewww.

Date: 2002-08-25 05:26 am (UTC)I had one when i was living at my mother's house, where i "woke up" and a bus had driven into the back garden, and whoever i talked to they wouldn't tell me why it was there or acknowledge whether it was actually there at all. It was very disconcerting, and after i really did wake up i looked out of the window for a full 15 minutes convincing myself that there wasn't a bus there. Eep! :)
