Sep. 4th, 2002 10:20 amWell! All sorted and moved now, thank goodness. R demonstrated great strength in carrying heavy boxes full of paper and books up various staircases to our flat - most impressive. My computer is safely installed here now, and should even connect via G's machine once the firewall is sorted out! I'm very glad it's ok; I was convinced some horrible accident would befall it during transportation.
Calling was good last night, though I was tired and didn't dance. Talked to many people, which was nice, though I was rather concerned about some of my friends, who seemed in a bit of a state. At the end of the evening, I got into a very silly argument with a prick of a guy, about historical linguistics. He was one of the most arrogant people I've ever spoken to, even including students :-) After convincing him that he didn't know what he was talking about, I was drunk enough to tell him that he was very rude and aggressive. We then had a meta-argument about whether people who were too shy to have vigorous arguments were worth talking to (he thought they weren't). Finally, as I was going, I asked what he did, and he said he was studying at "the moron college". He laughed, and said I could work it out later. I said, "Oh, you're at Homerton then. So you're doing teacher training?" He sniffed, and said, "Yes. Thank you for your dismissive attitude". And thus we parted. :-)
Duncan came back to sleep on our sofa last night, and this morning after G left for work (rather late and very hung over) he helped set up networking for my computer, which was good of him. I have tidied _some_ stuff away, but there is still a mountain of it to sort out. Will go to the Co-op soon, and then to the jobcentre to see G for lunch.
