I feel vaguely narked that I didn't notice the earthquake last night. I wasn't asleep; G was sitting right next to me on the sofa, and apparently he noticed it (though he didn't mention it at the time). Maybe I was just too absorbed in the film. Anyway, I remember the one 10 years ago, which last night's one was the strongest one since (if that makes sense). It was mid afternoon in late autumn 1992; I was standing on the concrete foundations of our dining room (which my dad was redecorating), and was barefoot (it was a phase I was going through) - so I guess I was in a good position to feel the tremors. I thought a lorry had gone past outside (they usually made the house shake), but looking outside, there wasn't one. Very strange.
Generally nice weekend. On Friday evening, we went to the KSR for a farewell drink with a roleplaying friend of G's. Of course, various of the usual crowd were there too, but it meant I also got to see people like [livejournal.com profile] dreamingchristi who aren't normally in the KSR (and who is definitely Not A Goth :-) After that, a bunch of us went to see Signs at the Warner Brothers; it was ok, but not as good as I'd hoped. G felt it probably had hidden depths that we'd failed to notice on a first watching; I'm not sure I feel enormously motivated to watch it again on that basis though.
On Saturday evening we went to MCV's birthday party. Had excellent time; met his (sort of) new partner; chatted much to ST about beanbags and past relationships, and later to MHF and another guy about dying languages and Guns, Germs and Steel. Then MCV kicked everyone out :-) Unfortunately, this was followed by me and G having a stupid argument, mostly caused by us both being drunk and misinterpreting each other. I didn't appreciate having to walk back on my own, though. But yesterday all was forgiven. Went off to the pool, where G did much diving from the top board, and I watched. Possibly I shall swim next week with the others; at least I have an idea of the layout of the place, if I need to go without my glasses. Chatted somewhat to [livejournal.com profile] darkgoblin. Back home, I made omelette and chips, and got some wine, and we drank it while watching Live and Let Die followed by OHMSS (we're in a Bond film phase atm, having done Red Dwarf and Blackadder).
Today I should go to CCS and get some discount CDs (G's hard disk is full of downloads!) I also need to get lots of food from various places, and try to sort out the problem with my article for Erfurt. They've written back saying they can't open my PDF file for some reason (it works fine for me) and they can't read postscript. I'll try generating PDFs with some different software; but if it still doesn't work I'll have to print it out and send it to them, like, physically. Which is annoying because I no longer have easy access to a printer (well, except my antique dot matrix, but I don't think they'd appreciate getting the article on fanfold). Rrg. This is all very worrying.

I have a printer you can borrow if need be, it's old but functional.

Thanks! I've just tracked down some file corruption that seemed to be going on earlier, though, and I've sent them another copy of the thing, so hopefully I won't have to print it out after all.
