Oct. 27th, 2002 11:28 amLast week was not very exciting until Friday. Met G after work and we went to eat at the Castle, then off to roleplaying with
emperor and
mobbsy. M and I had to level up, which is quite a procedure in Rolemaster. Finally all my stats have reached their potential values. Session itself was pretty good - my character Tate went to a library to research occult rituals and obscure languages, and found an Ancient Egyptian text explaining how one might raise an army of undead, and control them using an mysterious artifact termed "the hand of Amun-Ra" (apparently much scholarly ink had been spilt on the nature of this artifact, with some suggesting that it was actually a metaphor for the author's penis :-) Meanwhile, Philip and Asagawa checked out the warehouse again, and observed hordes of undead, in various stages of decay, converging on it. We met up later to formulate a plan, and decided to go back to the warehouse all together to try to find out more. We were dropped on the roof
by helicopter, and entered through a fire escape. Killed a couple of zombies, and headed towards the stairs down to the main room. On the way, I detected a mysterious animate presence in the hall, clearly very powerful (divine-level, even) and aware of me. I also detected a small, second animate force nearby the first (the hordes of zombies could of course not be detected by my spell, since they had no brains). On reaching the entrance to the hall, we flung caution to the winds and opened them boldly. The hall was filled with zombies, surrounding a vast figure with the head of a jackal, superimposed on the high priest who had performed the initial sacrifice and zombifying ritual. The Hand of Amun-Ra was apparently the second small animate presence: it was a glowing ball on the end of a staff. While Tate and Philip watched in amazement, Asagawa suddenly ran forward through the hall towards the Hand of Amun-Ra with the intent of seizing it! A few zombies approached him on the way; he and Philip picked
them off without difficulty. Anubis (or what we assumed to be Anubis) unsurprisingly prevented Asagawa from seizing the Hand, or from strangling the high priest. My attempt to teleport the Hand to me also unsurprisingly met with failure. There then ensued a bizarre conversation between Asagawa and Anubis, resulting in Asagawa shifting his allegiance to the ancient Egyptian god of the dead! And there the session ended - most exciting. MCV plays a very good Anubis :-)
Yesterday was G's friend T's wedding, at the Registry Office. We got all dressed up and rushed off there, getting to the waiting room shortly before noon. Various relatives and friends of T and S, mostly from Russia or Yorkshire, were already there, and indeed T and S were also in the waiting room (T in full white wedding dress with train and lilac-clad infant carrying it!) After a minute or two, the registrars told us all to come through to the marriage room itself. The guests didn't quite fill the room (though I suspect it will be pretty full when we have our ceremony in December!). The ceremony was the bare-bones, stripped-down version, without readings or additional text, and the registrar conducted it in an informal, lighthearted manner (no doubt, as G said, to put T at her ease, since she seemed very nervous). The vows were made, the register was signed, photos were taken inside and out (with confetti-throwing being somewhat hampered by the wind) and then S and T got in a flash car to go off to
the wedding meal (at the Tandoori Palace on Histon Road) while most of the rest followed G and me on foot (since we were the only ones who knew where the restaurant was). Very nice meal (I've eaten there before; it's always good). We were seated next to a rather annoying but very well-meaning guy called Bruce, who was a journalist and seemed fascinated by goths. He seemed to hold the rather strange opinion that all gays collect medieval military paraphernalia, which seemed a prejudice almost too bizarre to complain about. He seemed to know Marvin, the bouncer from the Q, quite well.
Drank quite a bit of wine at the meal, then headed off to the KSR for a couple of hours before T and S's celebratory pub crawl in the evening. Saw
oakdryad and
grahamb in the pub and chatted a bit (about spiders, budgies, pumas and other things!). G played a bit of pool, and we drank a certain amount more. Then, about 7, went to the Pickerel to meet T, S and a few of their friends. In the end we just moved on to the Castle, rather than pub-hopping down to the Anchor, which had been the original intention. I was rather cold and feeling isolated at the Pickerel, but got into some pleasant conversations with some of S's relatives once we got to the Castle. At closing time, we all went to the bar in the Arundel, where some of them were staying that night. Very flash place. By this point I was pretty drunk and G was exceedingly drunk. I fell asleep in the bar, and woke up when everyone was departing. I then helped G back to Mill Road with some difficulty (wind was getting up, my
formal shoes were hurting my feet, and G needed a fair amount of physical support!) and then bundled him into bed, still fully-clad :-)
Today it is very windy, and G's best man (who was going to come and visit) will presumably be unable to get a train up from London. G is upset about this, and also about losing his bag at some point during the festivities yesterday. I have a headache.

I just heard on the radio that the East Coast Mainline is shut, yes.
went to the Pickerel... once we got to the Castle
Do they still serve excellent beer at The Castle? Went there for my pre-`execution' (viva!) meal, way back when. Managed to freak one of the bar staff by paying for a round with my Visa debit card emblazoned with the logo of the Banque Nationale de Paris... `BNP'...
