Great few days just gone. Friday G had wanted to go to the pub, but it seemed most people were off to Tenebrae or something, so we went to the Kingston on our own, and found Matthew from Ecstasy and a go-playing friend of his, who we chatted to for a while. Then wandered over to the cinema where we'd booked tickets for 28 Days Later, which we thought was really good. Start reminds me of Day of the Triffids a bit; later there are shades of Outbreak and Event Horizon, and even bits that remind me of Song of Stone. I think my favourite bit is where the guy is wandering around a strangely deserted central London (I wonder when on earth they managed to film it!) - it's a mental image I get very frequently - seeing myself wandering around Cambridge, say, when there is absolutely no one else left alive in it for some reason. And I imagine how trees and weeds would quite quickly take over the place, and infiltrate the paving stones and overgrow the walls, and herbaceous borders would escape their confines...
Saturday night was G's stag night. It was initially going to be a traditional all-male event, but he changed his mind a few weeks ago and said he wanted some women along (including me). At 5 we went to the Mitre. To begin with, his friends from London had been variously delayed, and so weren't there yet, and GC who we thought was organising wasn't there yet, so G was a bit panicked. I ran over to the KSR in case there had been some mistake, and found SJ and Tom and some others, who said they'd be over later. Ran back and found G still on his own. Suddenly Roger from the Q walked past outside, and G ran out and grabbed him. He came in and joined us for nearly the whole evening. Soon afterwards, [livejournal.com profile] grahamb, [livejournal.com profile] doogle (G's best man), DE from London and [livejournal.com profile] robinbloke arrived, and then we moved to a larger table. Later [livejournal.com profile] technotom, [livejournal.com profile] surje and [livejournal.com profile] hallucinagene arrived, and I talked much to K, who also got me and G some amazing colourful drinks.
Lots of people plied us with Addlestones all evening - I had the most terrible headache the next day! Oh yes, G's friends T and S showed up after a bit, and of course [livejournal.com profile] zotz, who it seemed had been delayed in London. All much fun; most of us came back to our flat afterwards, drank more, chatted, smoked dope (kindly provided by D and T) and spilt stuff on the carpet :-)

I heard a bit on the radio about this. They did it by filming in high summer at about five am with handheld digital cameras, and bunging drivers a fiver to stay where they were for a couple of minutes while they shot each little bit.

I saw a making-of on TV when I was being an insomaniac. They had female runners holding the crowds back with sticks. Or summat. begging Still haven't seen it. Is the zombie plot as bad as it sounds?
