Mar. 27th, 2003 05:47 pmYay, we have carpet at last! After 8 months, the landlord finally got round to organising carpet to be laid on the communal stairs leading up to our flat. Weirdly, as I was going out this morning, trying not to trip over the underlay, one of the carpet men said, "You're not superstitious, are you?" Is there some belief I've not previously come across about it being unlucky to walk on partially-laid carpets?
Ah well. In other news, I sent off 11 copies of my CV today, in the last stages of my application for a lectureship in the University. Will wait and see, and try not to get my hopes up too much. Also, recently, marked lots of TMAs (tutor marked assignments) for my Open University students, and went to Leicester again to give the second tutorial (on dialectology / sociolinguistics this time). And today, an old friend of G's turned up unexpectedly on the doorstep (particularly unexpected since normally people have to ring the buzzer outside!)

11 copies?! Is the linguistics department allergic to photocopiers or something?

Date: 2003-03-27 01:06 pm (UTC):-) Given how narrow and twisty the staircase is, I think erecting ladders in it would be a very bad idea anyway!

I fear so. Well actually, it's the ASNaC department, but AFAICT this is pretty much routine procedure for applications in the University, to arts departments anyway. I had to submit ridiculous numbers of copies of my fellowship application to Trinity a few years ago as well.
