Apr. 22nd, 2003 05:58 pmWow, back now, quite tired. Have been to Whitby, followed directly by Eastercon. Arrived home, after much worrying about Bad Things waiting for me, to find mixed results: flat all ok and not burnt down, computers rather sick and unwilling to start up properly, big pile of mail including several late OU assignments to mark, two job rejections, and a substantial tax refund. Which was nice; the terse rejection letter from my former department was rather less nice (after sending 11 copies of my CV and all :-) Also waiting for me was an abundance of email (mostly spam, obviously), usenet to catch up on, and about 400 lj posts! I've just finished reading them all. Several memes seem to have been flourishing while we've been away; the most interesting one (to me) was the EQ-SQ thing: http://www.guardian.co.uk/life/news/page/0,12983,937443,00.html
on which I got 17 EQ and 57 SQ. I think I'd done the EQ one before; I got the same result last time (in the Asperger's range). The SQ one was new to me; I was particularly pleased that it said hardly any women score in this range :-) Both results together suggest I have a strongly "male" brain type, in their terms (or else am verging on autistic!). TBH I'd have been slightly annoyed if I'd got a different result.
I'm not sure I have the energy right now to do a full write-up of everything. Suffice it to say that G and I got extremely drunk almost every day, heard lots of music, chatted to many old (and newer) friends, went to many interesting SF-related programme items, got rather too little sleep and spent far too much (on alcohol and accommodation mainly, though we also got a Whitby jet cross for G's mother and a pewter tankard engraved "Goth" for G). G heroically gave up smoking in the middle of Eastercon.
zotz was with us all the way, giving us lifts, sharing our Whitby cottage, and putting up with our drunken ramblings in a variety of locations - thank you so much. I think we will now refrain from drinking for a week, to recover. It's good to be back.
