I haven't posted for ages, but I shall surrender to this when I met people meme. Almost everyone on my Friends list can be readily classified as a Geek or a Goth, and this explains how (and when) I met them.

Geeks or geek associates
Up to about autumn 1995: sion_a, ewx, aldabra, meirion; all at various parties in Scotland Road or Churchill. Perhaps also naranek, or maybe I just came across him on ucam.chat then. I must have first come across mtbc100 on ucam.chat as well, though I have little idea when exactly.

1995-1996ish: damerell, kaet, timeplease, mobbsy; all from gatherings in people's college rooms, mostly after Monday night pizza (then sometimes at Caffe Piazza still).

1997-2000ish: angoel, ceb, dreamingchristi, emperor, fivemack, fluffymormegil, ghoti, kitty_goth, lnr, ptc24, senji, simont, teleute; mostly at CUSFS events (eg. discussions in my college room or Thursday drinks at New Hall) or parties at Greenend or Relativity; kitty_goth stands out, however, as I met him in mobbsy's TH room one night, when he was making unorthodox uses of thick-cut orange marmalade.

Since 2000ish: antinomy, cjwatson, crazyscot, davefish, lark_ascending, nassus, simonb, sphyg; mainly associated with House! and parties there.

Goths (unless first met in a geek context, and hence covered already)
All since early 2000, when I began going to the Q Club: _dionysus_, aiwendel, alixandrea, blackmetalbaz, darkgoblin, grahamb, hampsterboy, lhiss, mrph, nisaba, oakdryad, olithered, razornet, robinbloke, scy11a, surje, technotom, valkyriekaren, wechsler; all at the Q or the Kambar or possibly the KSR.

Other
clawboy42: in the Corner House pub on Newmarket Road, as a roleplaying friend of G, in late 2001;
conflux: at BiCon in Edinburgh several years ago, in a BDSM workshop to be precise;
doogle: at the Electric Ballroom in December 2001, as G's old friend;
dreamserpent: at GB's house, at a party last year some time (in fact, that's about the only time we've ever met);
ergotia, zotz: in the Elsinore at Whitby (not at the same time; GC recognised me and kaet from Eastercon);
rowan_leigh: at a performance of Fire and Forget last year, in the Boat Race;
velvetfox: on Castle Mound, at dusk, a few weeks ago (you are my most recent addition!).

Hopefully this classification will not be horribly offensive to anyone! I just like organising information into groups :-)

Update: I am unhappy with my Goth section and feel it could be subdivided further, as I feel I actually remember more than I originally thought:

Early 2000-late 2001: _dionysus_, blackmetalbaz, darkgoblin, lhiss, mrph, olithered, razornet, robinbloke, technotom, valkyriekaren; all in the Q club while it still existed, at the Calling or WUS or Tight-laced or Puzzlebox. valkyriekaren I possibly met earlier, in a Geek context, though I don't really remember: it just seems plausible. technotom I particularly remember as being presented to me on a leash by KB while she went off to get a drink. zotz logically fits into this group as well, though I did not first meet him at the Q.

2002-present: aiwendel, alixandrea, ergotia, grahamb, hampsterboy, nisaba, oakdryad, scy11a, surje, velvetfox, wechsler; in a wider range of goth-related contexts, mostly via G (some people here I certainly knew of and recognised by sight before this, like nisaba, but didn't actually speak to, AFAIK, until later). clawboy42, doogle, dreamserpent and rowan_leigh might also fit into this group, since I met them via G or in vaguely goth-related settings, though I suspect they'd be more or less unhappy to be counted as goths.

Which leaves only conflux as unclassifiable :-)

I dont fit into "goth" or "geek"? Usually people find it difficult to decide which category I'm in!

I've certainly met you in goth contexts, it's just that our first meeting was in a particularly unusual place: not a club or pub like most of the Camgoths. On reflection, I think I'll subdivide my Goth section further :-)

I rememeber that! How's you? I haven't spoken with either you or Graham since the beer festival, when for some reason everyone thought I knew and was responsible for that beered-up profusely bleeding heroin addict who hopped the fence. I wasn't :P

Hello! I'm fine, and Graham's fine too (though just getting over a cold, and I have a bit of a sore throat). I gather you're not so well, though - hope the docs sort things out soon.

I don't remember the person you're talking about from the beer festival, really - was Graham being a steward at the time? Surely he didn't think you were involved with this person? I don't remember him mentioning it, anyway.

That's bizarre. The first time I met you was almost identical. I don't recall who it was that had the leash at the time, but they'd disappeared to the bar and just said 'Would you mind holding this for me?'. I'd completely forgotten that. Weird.
