I do see some strange things from my 2nd-floor window over Mill Road. Just now, a couple of policemen were hanging around outside the Bath House, very bored-looking, apparently _waiting_ for crimes to be committed in front of them. All the homeless people had gone somewhere else. A woman approached the recycling centre with a box of bottles and papers, and began chucking them into various bins. One of the policemen turned to watch with great interest, and then actually went over to her and scrutinized her intently until she finished. Once she'd gone, he peered into the bins she'd been using, with deep suspicion, presumably to check whether she'd put the right colour glass in!
I suppose this all arises from some misguided attempt to convince the public of police presence in the community.

Perhaps there was some real expected crime, and they were bored of waiting for it?
