Yesterday was my birthday, and G made it particularly lovely. I woke up in the nicest way, and then we went to Madal Bal, a really splendid Indian vegetarian sandwich bar nearby, which we'd never been to before. It's far from cheap, but has absolutely fantastic food and drinks. The decor is wonderfully surreal; there are pictures of gurus and texts about meditation on the walls, stone chairs in the shape of enormous hands, lots of plants, and a shrine in a back room, with a picture of another guru resting on a purple cushion. I think aiwendel would like this cafe!
Then we went swimming, and G did some very impressive diving. After that we had intended to go to the Linear B exhibition at the Fitzwilliam, but it was raining, so we wussed out, and went shopping instead. G found a Command and Conquer-type game he wanted in the Sally Army shop, and he also got me some blue Curacao and a box of marzipan fruits. Then we went home and watched my OU astronomy video about the Cassini-Huygens mission. After that, G played his new game for a bit, and I constructed a model hydralisk (another present from G). I have called it Bob, obviously.
In the evening we had a delicious meal at Bella Pasta, where G ate a duck pizza with plum sauce (!). Then back home again to watch Good Will Hunting, which I haven't seen for a while, and which G had never seen all the way through.
Altogether a splendid day. Thanks also to robinbloke and emperor for tasty presents!

I don't believe I've ever played this game - I'm guessing it's a pointy-clicky-little-men game a bit like Command & Conquer or Warcraft, but IN SPACE?

Yes, from the same people as Warcraft, only in space (or rather, on other planets) and involving three races, not two. It's much more developed and complex than Warcraft, and the races all require quite different approaches and strategies. It's hardly cutting edge, though; it must have come out around '97. Still fantastic, though.
